Newbury pub agrees to use plastic glasses after two glassing incidents this year.

...The Snooty Fox in Bartholomew Street will now serve alcohol in polycarbonate glasses at peak times, such as Friday and Saturday night.

Inspector Pete Oliphant said: “Thames Valley Police has a policy of encouraging the use of polycarbonate glasses in town centre pubs and clubs where it is deemed appropriate"...

Plastic fantastic for drinkers

CAMPAIGNERS today said they were making good strides in their bid to make drinking safer in Ipswich town centre.

Liquid and Envy nightclub recently became the first venue in the Ipswich to be completely glass-free after converting to polyethylene teraphthalate (PET).

And the campaign has increased momentum with more and more premises converting to varying degrees of polycarbonate use throughout the year....

POLICE officer is urging publicans in a North-East town to adopt plastic pint pots to reduce the amount of glassings in pubs.

...Insp Turner said: "This is a step towards making Consett a safer place to come and enjoy a night out.

"If you are drinking out of a polycarbonated glass then you feel a lot safer.

"They are so strong they will not break and cannot be used as a weapon"...
